Majors perform during Music Week kick-off

Music majors kicked off Music Week performing a series of pop songs during the annual Music in the Courtyard. Chilly, windy weather drove participants inside for the event, held April 3 in the student center. Senior music major, Eric Henderson, hosted the event.

Vocalist Tirzah Williams performed Rock With You by Michael Jackson, with a follow up performance of Love Will Keep Us Together, sang by Allison Turner. A’keem Clinton followed her act with Richie Valens’s La Bamba, Elisha Jewell gave the crowd a performance of pop record Gee Baby, Ain’t I Good To You by Diana Krall. Tirzah Williams and Mikayla Miller performed a duet of The Girl is Mine by Michael Jackson, giving the crowd a vintage feel. Newly announced Miss LOC Trakisha Millbrook led the grand finale, performing Dionne Warwick’s  I Say A Little Prayer For You accompanied by Allison Turner and Tirzah Williams.

“Music Week enhances the culture here at LeMoyne-Owen College. Every year, we host Music Week to show students how important music is to this institution,” said Dr. Arlene Chongson, music area coordinator. The performers were accompanied by professional instrumentalists Steve Lee on the keyboard, Neal Bowen on the bass, Mike Assad on the drums, and Logan Hanna on the guitar.
