Midnight Madness

The LeMoyne-Owen College men’s and women’s basketball team were introduced and team members participated in a shootout and dunking contest during Midnight Madness, Oct. 14 at Bruce Hall Gymnasium.

Members from fraternities, sororities and other sports fans came out to support players during the late-night event.

After introductions, men and women players competed in a “Spot shot”. One player laid the ball up, then another player made a free-throw. Next was a three-point shootout,  and the last shot was  from half court.  Team Insane won, including players Crystal Shields, Champale Grays, and Dareyon Terrell.

The winner for the three-point shootout was Desmond Black and Dana Gettis came in second place. After the dunk contest, which was just for fun, the men’s and women’s basketball teams played a scrimmage. The women’s score ended in a  tie, 27 to 27, and the white team won, 36 to 34, for the men.

“The program looked well organized,” freshman Taurik Royston said. “I enjoyed watching the men and women showcase their talents. It also seems like they really enjoy what they do as individuals, and as a team.”
